Today's Review will be about a simple and objective tool that can generate good insights for your commercial intelligence team and, mainly, for your commercial team.
We're talking about Wappalyzer !
Wappalyzer is an open source tool available on GitHub and 100% free that was created in 2009 and aims to identify the technologies used in a website.
According to the tool's website, it is able to recognize 1169 different web technologies.
The results are processed and made available through APIs and datasets that can be accessed through the extension available for Google Chrome and Firefox . Or you can try others services at here.
In addition to the extensions, for those who are more familiar with information technology, Wappalyzer provides JavaScript code that can be executed with some customization.
From the weblog, on March 14, 2017, the author reports that the extension Wappalyzer "made life a little easier for all Web developers, and, equally important for their users . Between these two categories of users, there are also those who will be interested in making more complex customization of the code or even use it in their own projects. Accordingly, files containing all JavaScript code required to operate this extension have been released under GPL license".
Wappalyzer has a community of volunteers who improve the tool by discovering new applications and improving existing ones. Updates occur regularly by adding new features.
The extension should work with all major browsers except Internet Explorer since the Chrome and Firefox APIs are not widely available.
If you use IE, there is a Greasemonkey script that works with IE7 or newer.
There have been attempts to develop an extension to improve error reporting of some sites. This includes a document on how to use the Open Web Inspector as an error reporting tool for using it with Wappalyzer, but this was discontinued due only to the lack of interest in developing it anymore.bsite you can also include the address of the website you want to search.

The tool is 100% free and has no query limit.
Wappalyzer only charges a monthly fee to partners who want to use the API they make available to incorporate it into their own system.
This API provides real-time results and maintains the history of analyzed sites.
The monthly fee is charged according to the complexity of the query you wish to make through the API.
For domain queries, monthly fees range from $25 for 1000 requests and $400 for 1 million requests.
For simple URL queries, the values range from $50 to $500 per month for the same number of requests.
For domain analysis with up to 20 pages, monthly fees for the same number of requests are between $100 and $900.
Wappalyzer only requires that the output of queries over the Wappalyzer API is not used to develop competing solutions or products.
Wappalyzer offers a comprehensive "test" service in which it analyzes the sites of prospective partners in order to determine the conditions under which they will be eligible for partnership.

The main criticism related to Wappalyzer is its inability to analyze all sites accessible, as indicated by Rishi Lakhani in his presentation at Commerce 2.0 conference (San Jose, USA, 2008).
What can you improve?
I didn't see any great possibility of improvement in the tool because it fulfills the role it was willing to play very well.
Besides, whomever needs a hammer doesn't need a saw.
For me, the best tool is the one you put in your hand, and if I wanted to make changes I would have just touched up my old one.
The conclusion was that this machine was not worth for investment of time and money and it could be replaced with something more suitable.
I think you should take a look at some other machines as well before deciding whether to buy or not. A lot of people share my view on tools: that they are essential but there's no need to spend tons of money on them because you never know what could happen later on.atever the chosen medium, it is very simple to use and brings easily actionable results.
Even though it is a cool tool, I will certainly never recommend its use for everyone who is interested in optimising his or her websites.
So, I recommend that each one should try tools out first and think if they are truely necessary to achieve the goal you have in mind.
I have been using W3T for about a year and a half. I would like to say that it's been an extremely positive experience. It's both powerful yet simple to implement.
I've found plenty of uses for eW3c as well as for other web analytics tools used on other sites my clients manage.
The main reasons for this is it's ease of use and the fact that I always know where I am with my analytics information.
