What Is Helium 10 and Why Is It So Powerful?

In terms of finding keywords, this as as good as any other keyword research tool out there. Results seem to be based off of Amazon department, so pick the one most relevant to your niche. There are a ton of results, and you can filter by number of words in the phrase or search volume metrics. Keywords can then be exported to Frankenstein.

Frankenstein: Different ways to combine and organize your keywords

This is actually a pretty cool little tool. Once you import your keywords on the left side of the screen (image below), you can choose various filters to organize your phrases. These can then be used for other aspects of Helium 10 (see below).

In the image above you can see that he removed all the duplicate words like “baseball glove”, so that each word only appears once. Later in the video he organizes the words to one per line, and you can also choose separate by comma.

Overall, this is a good way to distill your keyword lists into their most effective form to use for whatever it is you're using them for.

5k checker: check which keywords or phrases you are not listed for

Another super useful feature of Helium 10 is that you can check for phrases you are not ranking for in Amazon. You put in the ASIN of your product(s), then your list of keywords you created in the steps before. Run the program, and you'll see what you are or are not ranked for.

Trendster: Check seasonality or general trend

This tool is pretty simple to understand. You can see the overall trend of a phrase/keyword for general searches as well as for Amazon specifically. This will give you insight into whether a keyword is seasonal, and how the trend looks over a mulit-year timeline.

Misspellinator: Check for keywords misspellings

Many times people will search for terms but type them wrong. Amazon will correct them most of the time, but not always! This gives you an opportunity to capitalize on those misspellings.

Scribbles: Make sure all your keywords get into title/description

This was fun to play with, even just practicing your Amazon listing. Once you've collected your list of most important keywords from Frankenstein, you can attempt to get all of them into your listing title or description. As you add words from the list, they are then taken off the list so you can effectively track which words you've already used, and which ones you have left.

Brand Gate: Check if brand is “gated”, or protected by copyright

This concept wasn't explained very well in the introductory video, and the tool is currently under maintenance. Brand gating is where a product can only be sold by a certain seller because it's the “official” brand. This is good for you if you can get it, and not good for you if someone else has it. I'm not sure which side of the equation this tool lands on, whether it checks if products you're selling are brand gated or if it checks for brand gating opportunities…more on this when the tool updates!

XRAY (helium 10 extension)

This is a helium 10 chrome extension that runs separately from Helium 10’s web browser suit. The plugin provides a lot of useful data when you are searching for the Amazon marketplace, so it’s well worth using during your early research phase.

All the market data you need to make informed decisions on what products to pursue is available using X-Ray. Any time you are searching for products on Amazon, run the extension, and see all the market data you need, including revenue, competition, sales, and much more.

Keyword Tracker: Check rank

Pretty obvious use here – check your rank for keywords with a specific ASIN. It also have amazon bsr module for thí.

Hijack Alert: See if your listing is hijacked

I wasn't 100% clear on what “hijacking” meant, but I assume it means that someone's messing with your ranking or listing, or perhaps stealing your keywords. Keep an eye on it!

Refund Genie: Check Amazon for reimbursements required (owed) [paid subscription]

This will just tell you if Amazon owes you money at the end of the month due to items that were refunded. My guess is that it's items that were refunded due to Amazon's error, like a lost or stolen package, or an item broken during delivery.

Cerebro: Keyword research from ASIN instead of seed keyword

Reverse ASIN Lookup basically does keyword research using your product number instead of a seed keyword. This way you can see what other products on Amazon are also getting ranked for similar keywords, and give you more ideas of what you can aim to rank for with your product set.

I didn't dig into all of these tools, but I was a little disappointed to find out that not all of them are free. It seems to me that if you are paying a monthly fee for a suite of tools, it's a bit of a bummer to have to pay extra, on top of what you're already paying. In the first instructional video, the presenter says something like “about half of those tools are free to use, the other half require a membership”. So watch out – there may be other costs on the way.

If the tools you buy can help you earn more than the tool costs, then it's worth it, and the price doesn't matter much. But if you are just starting to invest money in your business and pinching pennies along the way, just keep an eye out for upsells  like this.

The Ideal User For Helium 10

I never recommend just throwing money at your business, because I’ve done it, and my most cringe-inducing moments is when I think back to the money I spent without fully understanding what I was buying.

A great example is how i had an Aweber subscription for two years and never built my list to more than a couple hundreds people as well as never sent an email blast. Of course I use it now, and leverage email marketing like a champ, but I just wasn’t ready for it back in the day.

The reason I mention this, is that I don’t think this is a great tool for newbies. Helium 10 pricing is $100 per month is a lot to spend for a souped up keyword research tool. If that’s all you’re looking for, you can get something similar from Mangools KWFinder or Jaaxy for a lot cheaper. If you do have an Amazon business already set up and have made a couple sales however, I think you really could benefit from using Helium 10. It was very obvious that using this tool gets you a lot of insight into the Amazon “search engine”, and that knowledge can certainly help you grow your business.

Don’t think that Helium 10 will fix your business for you! It won’t take you from lackluster sales to rockstar in a week. You’ll need to learn how to use the tools properly, and take action to implement the results. It’s going to take some work!

But if you are ready to put in the hours, Helium 10 can help you increase your productivity.

For keyword/product rank tracking there are some cheaper services that do similar things.

For KW research I would recommend Merchant Words and asking around for a discount code for that. That is much cheaper and is purely focused on keyword research. The Google Keyword tool especially if you have tiered up to being able to see more accurate search volumes is also good for sanity checking phrasing, building ad campaigns, and estimating market size.

IMO if I could just offer some feedback in general there are too many Amazon software services that try to become suites where they would be better off just providing a small featureset better than all of the other options.

Listing quality might also not be something that you are going to fix with SEO alone and the primary issue with your business might not be just listing content quality. It could be a lot of things. If it is a very small business with a limited selection of products for sale, many of the things you would use H10 for can be handled manually or with other cheaper tools and services.

4. This post and the article referenced in regards to and its tool "Cerebro" are full of inaccuracies. I wasn't going to respond initially but felt it was needed.

I hadn't heard of wordtree until somebody messaged me today about this post. But let's go through this:

WordTree charges at least $4.95 per ASIN search from what I gather on your pricing.

Helium 10 and the "Cerebro" tool has free Reverse ASIN searches. 2 Per day, every day, forever. So to be clear, you never need to buy any credits, and as a free user, you get 60 searches per month.

Helium 10 comes with a dozen other tools, half of which are free to use without a paid plan.

Helium 10 also has a Chrome plugin at - also free, that allows you to match up reviewers to your orders, does revenue calculations, checks competitors stock levels has incredibly accurate trends graphs for BSR and price, and a lot more, with new features being added weekly.

Let's get back to what was claimed in this post, though.

You mention keyword phrase accuracy. It sounds like you (wordtree) are making this up as you go. If I am choosing keyword phrases, I can find tons of keywords where your tool will fail miserably in the amount of data it has collected. This selective picking of keyword phrases should not be used. I will talk more about that at the end.

For now, let's look at the facts:

Cerebro's keyword phrases are based on 2 factors:

A) First, every keyword phrase shows up in the auto-suggest, so Amazon finds that phrase is typed in by users, or it wouldnt show up in autosuggest.

B) That phrase pulls up the ASIN in the search results -- it's 100% accurate. Cerebro only collect phrases if Amazon shows that ASIN in the search results. How is that inaccurate (or as you call it, Keyword phrase accuracy)?

You (wordTree) mentioned keyword phrases in your article that people are unlikely to type in. See #2A above. People are typing them in, or they wouldn't show up as auto-suggest. You may not like them, or they may have super low search volume, but Amazon shows them in auto-suggest, meaning people are typing them into the search bar enough to trigger Amazon to show it as an auto-suggest.

Cerebro has a ton of filters, so if you want to eliminate keywords with low search volume, or generic single word keywords with massive search volume, that takes 2 seconds with the filters.

And listen, I understand that many keyword phrases are junk, and I wouldn't want them in my listings either. But they still get typed in by people and are shown as autosuggests by Amazon and they have small amounts of traffic. You have to use your brain to decide whether you want that word or not. What is garbage to you may be gold to somebody else who is thinking outside of the box. If the software filters out too much, you're leaving money on the table.

From the screenshots I saw from the wordtree website, it doesn't appear WordTree has search volume numbers. You use stars, which are an OK indicator relative to one another (if accurate), but they don't help you if you want to rank #1 for that keyword phrase. You need to know search volume and competing products if you're going to figure out how many sales are needed over a certain number of days to get to the top of page 1 for that phrase. I can't do that with 'stars.'

For paid Helium 10 members, Cerebro shows the most accurate search volume per keyword, both as exact phrase and broad match, on the market This is invaluable to a seller that knows how to use this data, and in fact is the backbone to the CPR method for ranking on Amazon that tons of people are crushing it with.

Our filters automatically hide keywords with zero search volume. You can turn this feature off if you want to see these zero-search-volume words (they may be important for broad matching phrases later.)

You mention not having to list plurals because of stemming. That's just crazy. That's what Amazon tells you, but any smart seller that has done their research will tell you this is not true. Do a search for Garlic Press and look at the competing products. Now do a search for Garlic Presses and take a look again. They have different competing products.

Now run Cerebro and take a look at the search volume for each. You'll notice in all of the above cases, the numbers are different. This should be ab AHA moment for people reading this. Don't just stick to a single version of the word just because you want to index for it. Sure, you may index for the plural version as well, but you'll rank to the top of page 1 way, way faster if you have that keyword phrase in your title exactly as people type it, plural or not.

I can see where you may be confused though. In Sponsored Ads, Amazon will lump stemmed words together for exact phrase (for the analytics), but in the real world where people type in different versions of a word, they will get different search results and have different search volumes. It's super important to know the search volumes of all stemmed and misspelled versions of a word if you want to rank for them separately.

I could talk about how Cerebro also tracks ASIN's that are bidding on phrases through sponsored ads and headline ads and how this data can pull in tons of $ for the savvy seller who knows how to use this data and zone in on those special keywords for paid advertising.

I could also pick keyword phrases where your tool pulls up almost no results and Cerebro pull up thousands. But that's silly -- there are an unlimited number of data points and hundreds of millions of keyword phrases (in the USA alone) that show up for auto-suggest, so it's impractical for any one tool to have the most results for every keyword out there.

I'm going to stop here because the post is getting way too long. I'm open for a debate among tools, but don't not tear down another product with inaccuracies.

In the end, nobody needs to pay for Reverse Asin Lookups any more because Cerebro allows you to do this for free, 60X per month. Cheers!
